About Us

Duck Springs Baptist Church across a wide green lawn on a clear summer morning

Who We Are

Duck Springs Baptist Church has stood in northeast Etowah County since 1841 — organized when Alabama itself was twenty-two years old.

We are a Southern Baptist congregation, affiliated with the Etowah Baptist Association and the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. About forty-five of us gather on a Sunday morning.

We are not a large church and we are not trying to become one. What we offer is what a small church has always offered: people who will know your name, notice when you are gone, and show up when you need them.

Loving God. Loving People. Making Disciples.

Our Pastor

Bro. Phil Swindall

Phillip Swindall has served as pastor of Duck Springs Baptist Church since 2024.

He came to Duck Springs after the death of Rev. Royce Head, who pastored this church faithfully for eighteen years. That is a long shadow and a good one, and the congregation’s love for him is still plain.

Bro. Phil and his wife Teresa were married on November 19, 2010.

What We Believe

We affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, the confession of faith of the Southern Baptist Convention.

In plainer words:

  • The Bible is God’s word, and it is true and sufficient.
  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God, crucified for sinners, raised from the dead, coming again.
  • Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone — not earned, not inherited, not transferred.
  • Baptism is by immersion, and it follows belief rather than causing it.
  • The Church is people, not a building — though we are fond of ours.

Any question you have, Bro. Phil will answer straight. Ask him.
